Adjustment Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the left insulator panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT .

  2. Remove the knee bolster screws.
  3. Pull on the knee bolster to release the upper retainers.
  4. Remove the knee bolster.

  5. Locate to mode door linkage.

  6. Open the push rod retainer clip (1) with a small flat bladed screwdriver.
  7. Disconnect the push rod (2) from the retainer clip (1).

  8. Align the third thread (1) on the push rod with the end of the retainer clip.
  9. Close the push rod retainer clip.
  10. Inspect the air flow during the following conditions to verify proper operation:
    • No significant air bleed from the vent outlet during Heater mode.
    • Suitable air flow from the vent outlet during Bi-level mode.

    Important:  Perform the following if air bleed is felt from the vent outlet during Heater mode.

  11. Open the push rod retainer clip with a small flat bladed screwdriver.
  12. Disconnect the push rod from the retainer.

  13. Position the push rod so that the tip of the push rod will appear longer by one thread.
  14. Close the retainer clip and retest for air bleed.
  15. Repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.

    Important:  Perform the following if there is no air flow from the vent outlet during Bi-level mode.

  16. Open the push rod retainer clip with a small flat bladed screwdriver.
  17. Disconnect the push rod from the retainer.

  18. Position the push rod so that the tip of the push rod will appear shorter by one thread.
  19. Close the retainer clip and retest for suitable air flow.
  20. Repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.
  21. Align the clips on the knee bolster with the corresponding slots on the IP.
  22. Push in to secure the knee bolster to the IP.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .

  23. Install the knee bolster screws.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the screws to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).

  24. Install the left insulator panel. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT .
