Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Install the compressor.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  2. Install the compressor mounting bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  4. Remove cap or tape from the discharge hose.
  5. Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing surfaces of the A/C refrigerant hoses and the A/C refrigerant component.

    Important:  Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.

  6. Install the sealing washer to the discharge hose.
  7. Connect the discharge hose to the compressor.
  8. Install the discharge hose to compressor nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  9. Remove cap or tape from the suction hose.
  10. Install the sealing washer to the suction hose.
  11. Connect the suction hose to the compressor.
  12. Install the suction hose to compressor nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  14. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
  15. Connect the engine harness electrical connector.

  17. Install the air baffle.
  18. Install the air baffle bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  20. Release the drive belt tensioner.

    Install the drive belt on to the compressor pulley.

  21. Install the RH engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE .
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  24. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
