Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply GM P/N 9985164, or equivalent, to the coolant heater seal.
  2. Ensure that the coolant heater element is horizontal and pointed toward the front of the engine.

    The 3 o'clock position (2) is DESIRED.

    The 2 o'clock position (1) and the 4 o'clock position (3) are acceptable.

  3. Install the coolant heater.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the coolant heater bolt/screw.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the coolant heater bolt/screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the engine coolant heater cord to the engine coolant heater.
  6. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE .
  7. Install the right front wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
