Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Buick Regal and 2003 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If standard column, install the following parts onto the steering shaft assembly:
    1. 1.1. The thrust washer (1)
    2. 1.2. The upper bearing spring (2)
    3. 1.3. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (3) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529)
    4. 1.4. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (3) onto the steering shaft assembly
    5. 1.5. Install the cam orientation plate (4) onto the steering shaft assembly

  2. If tilt column, install the following parts onto the steering column shaft assembly:
    1. 2.1. Lubricate the inner race (1) with GM P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516)
    2. 2.2. Install the inner race (1)
    3. 2.3. The upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    4. 2.4. The upper bearing spring (3)
    5. 2.5. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529)
    6. 2.6. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly
    7. 2.7. The cam orientation plate (5)

  3. Install the new bearing retainer onto the steering shaft assembly.
  4. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR  and J 42137  .

  5. Firmly seat the bearing retainer into the groove on the steering shaft assembly.
  6. Remove J 23653-SIR  .
  7. Install the SIR coil. Refer to SIR COIL ASSEMBLY in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
