Engine Valley Cover Cleaning and Inspection

    IMPORTANT: Do not use the valley cover knock sensor oil seals again. Install NEW oil seals during assembly.
  1. Remove the knock sensor oil seals (520) from the valley cover (555).

  3. Remove the bolts (1), baffle cover (2), and baffle (3) from the valley cover (555).
  4. Clean the valley cover components in solvent.
  5. CAUTION: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Dry the components with compressed air.
  7. Inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for excessive scratches or gouging.
  8. Inspect the oil seal bores for excessive scratching or gouging.
  9. Inspect the ventilation tube for a loose fit or restrictions.
  10. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Install the baffle (3), baffle cover (2) and bolts (1) to the valley cover (555).

    Tighten:  Tighten the baffle cover bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
