Seat Belt Indicator Circuit Malfunction

Seat Belt Indicator Circuit Malfunction

1 Did you review the Seat Belt System Description and Operation  and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Seat Belts

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Monitor the fasten safety belt indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver seat belt.
Does the system operate properly?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 With the driver seat belt buckled, use a scan tool to observe the Driver Side Belt Status parameter in the SIR scan tool data list.
Does the scan tool indicate that the Driver Side Belt Status parameter displays Buckled?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) connector. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the seat belt switch - LF connector. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front .
  4. Test the seat belt switch - LF signal circuit for an open or a high resistance.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 5 
5 Test the seat belt switch - LF ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6

  1. Test the seat belt switch - LF for an open.
  2. Replace the seat belt switch - LF if it is malfunctioning. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) connector. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.
  3. Disconnect the seat belt switch - LF connector. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front .
  4. Test the seat belt switch - LF signal circuit for a short to voltage or a short to ground.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 8

  1. Test the seat belt switch - LF for a short.
  2. Replace the seat belt switch - LF if it is malfunctioning. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9 
9 Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 10  -
10 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you find and correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
