Folding Top Cover Tension Adjustment - Rear

  1. Close the convertible top.

  3. Verify the tension in the folding top cover by setting a 1 m (3.28 ft) straight edge on the top cover between the #4 and the #5 bows.
  4. With a ruler, measure the sag distance between the bottom of the straight edge and the top cover:
    • Cloth: 15-20 mm (0.60-0.79 in), normally set at 18 mm (0.70 in)
    • Vinyl: 15-20 mm (0.60-0.79 in), normally set at 15 mm (0.60 in)
  5. If the tension does not meet these specifications, modify the tension by continuing with the following steps.
  6. To modify the tension, remove the folding top. Refer to Folding Top Replacement .
  7. Remove the #5 bow weatherstrip. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Front and Center Side Rails)  or Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Rear Side Rail)  or Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Number Five Bow) .

  9. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers remove the top cover staples.
  10. Pull the top cover downward to increase the tension.

  12. Fold the top cover over the #5 bow and secure with 5 cm (2 in) pinch clamps. Place the clamps directly over the steel rivets within the bow.

  14. Using a ruler as before, verify the tension again and adjust the tension as necessary.
  15. Staple the top cover to the bow.
  16. Install the #5 bow weatherstrip. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Front and Center Side Rails)  or Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Rear Side Rail)  or Weatherstrip Replacement - Folding Top (Number Five Bow) .
  17. Reposition the top to the original position.
