Removal Procedure

- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
- Remove the SIR coil from the steering column. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
- Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
- Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 . See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Dispose of the bearing retainer.
- Remove the following from the steering shaft:
- Shaft lock shield (5)
- Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
- Upper bearing spring (3)
- Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
- Inner race (1)
CAUTION:

IMPORTANT:
Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
