Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
  2. IMPORTANT: Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
  3. Remove the SIR coil from the steering column. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
  4. Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).

  6. Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR and J 42137  . See Special Tools and Equipment .
  7. Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
  8. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137  . See Special Tools and Equipment .
  9. Dispose of the bearing retainer.

  11. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
    1. Shaft lock shield (5)
    2. Turn signal cancel cam assembly (4)
    3. Upper bearing spring (3)
    4. Upper bearing inner race seat (2)
    5. Inner race (1)
