Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If removed, install the coolant pump to the engine front cover. Refer to WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT .
  2. If removed, install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover. Refer to CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS .

  3. If removed, install the drive belt shield.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install the drive belt shield bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the engine front cover gasket.
  6. Apply sealer GM P/N 12346004 or the equivalent to both sides of the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket.

  7. Install the engine front cover.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  8. Install the engine front cover bolts (3).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts (3) to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  9. Install the engine front cover bolt (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt (1) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  10. Install the engine front cover bolts (2).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts (2) to 21 N.m (16 lb ft).

  11. Install the lower crankshaft position sensor wiring harness bracket to the engine front cover

  12. Install the upper crankshaft position sensor wiring harness bracket to the engine front cover
  13. Install the coolant pump pulley. Refer to WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT .
  14. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the coolant pump. Refer to RADIATOR HOSE REPLACEMENT - OUTLET .
  15. Connect the thermostat bypass pipe to the engine front cover. Refer to THERMOSTAT BYPASS PIPES REPLACEMENT .
  16. Install the power steering pump with lines. Refer to POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT .
  17. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  18. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  19. Fill the engine with NEW engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  20. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM .
