Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
- Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - Lower .
- Remove the exhaust crosssover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to THERMOSTAT BYPASS PIPES REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT STRUT BRACKET REPLACEMENT - Right .
- Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
- Remove the engine left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
- Remove the engine left side spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
- Remove the engine left side exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - LEFT .
- Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the cylinder head.
- Remove the cylinder head gasket.
- Clean the following areas:
- The gasket sealing surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block, and intake manifolds
- The cylinder block bolt threads
- The cylinder head bolts
