Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION .
  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to STEERING COLUMN TRIM COVERS - DISASSEMBLE - Off Vehicle .
  3. Remove the shift lever assembly. Refer to SHIFT LEVER REPLACEMENT - On Vehicle .
  4. With a screwdriver carefully pry the automatic transmission shift lock control away from the steering column jacket.

  5. The lock cylinder should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
  6. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the electronic lock module assembly and push against the locking tab to remove the park lock cable assembly (1).

  7. Remove the 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly.

  9. Remove the linear shift assembly.
  10. Continue with the following steps if disassembling the linear shift assembly.
  11. Remove the hexagon flanged head bolt.
  12. Remove the ball and actuator assembly (2).
  13. Remove the shift lever clevis (1).

  14. Remove the 2 oval head 6-lobed socket tap screws from the shift gate.

    Remove the park lock cable assembly.

  15. Remove the hexagon flange head bolt.
  16. Remove the cable shift cam assembly (1).
  17. Remove the cam bushing (2) from the cable shift cam assembly (1).

  18. Remove the 3 flat head 6-lobed socket tap screws.
  19. Remove the linear shift bracket assembly.
