Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
  1. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILLAR   . 
  2. Remove the front door opening weather-strips. Refer to DOOR SYSTEM, MIRROR SYSTEM & WINDOW SYSTEM  in Doors.
  3. Remove the sunshades. Refer to SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT   .

  4. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - OVERHEAD (SINGLE)   or CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - OVERHEAD (DUAL)   or CONSOLE REPLACEMENT - OVERHEAD (CF5)   . 
  5. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to DOME LAMP REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT U42)  or DOME LAMP REPLACEMENT (WITH U2)  or LIGHTING SYSTEMS  in Lighting Systems.
  6. Remove the rear headliner trim finishing molding. Refer to HEADLINING TRIM FINISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT   . 
  7. Remove the upper pillar garnish molding. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - UPPER PILLAR   . 
  8. Remove the body side rear upper garnish molding. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - BODY SIDE REAR UPPER   . 
  9. Remove the rear corner upper garnish molding Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - REAR CORNER UPPER   . 
  10. Remove the reading lamps. Refer to LIGHTING SYSTEMS  in Lighting Systems.
  11. Remove the rear fan/temperature controls. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT - AUXILIARY  in HVAC System. - Manual.
  12. Remove the cargo lamp. Refer to LIGHTING SYSTEMS  in Lighting Systems.
  13. Remove the liftgate weather-strips. Refer to BODY REAR END  in Body Rear End.
  14. Remove the roof auxiliary air outlets, if equipped Refer to AIR OUTLET DUCTS REPLACEMENT - AUXILIARY  in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
  15. Use J 38778  in order to remove the rear headliner push-in retainers.
  16. Push the headliner forward in order to release the locking tab at the front overhead console.
  17. Remove the headliner from the roof through the rear of the vehicle.
