Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Head restraints are the double-post type that are adjustable either up or down. Only the solid type head restraints have serviceable trim covers.

Removal of the head restraints can be accomplished by using the J 42372  or by fabricating a similar tool.

  1. Raise the head restraint to the full up position.
  2. Push the head restraint down just far enough in order to center the locking clip in the guide (4) between the detents (3) on the posts (1).
  3. Insert the J 42372  down the detent side of both posts (3).
  4. At the same time, hold both of the tools (2) down and lift the head restraint upward in order to disengage the detents (3) from the guide (4).
  5. Lift the head restraint out.
