Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor status of DTC P0449. If DTC P0449 has run and failed the LAST TEST, go to next step. If DTC P0449 has not run and failed the LAST TEST, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Check EMISS fuse (10-amp) located in underhood fuse block. Replace fuse as necessary. Raise vehicle. Disconnect EVAP vent solenoid harness connector, located on EVAP canister in front of fuel tank. Connect Noid Light (SA9194E) between solenoid harness 2-pin connector terminals. Using scan tool, command EVAP vent solenoid on and off. If noid light follows command, go to step  4 . If noid light does not follow command, go to next step.
  3. Connect test light between ground and EVAP vent solenoid harness connector terminal "A" (White wire). If test light does not illuminate, repair open in White wire to underhood fuse block. If test light illuminates, check for open in White wire between EVAP vent solenoid and ECM. If wire is okay, replace ECM.
  4. Remove noid light. Using DVOM, measure voltage at EVAP vent solenoid connector terminal "B" (White wire). If 2.6-4.6 volts are present, check EVAP vent solenoid connector. If connector is okay, replace EVAP vent solenoid. If 2.6-4.6 volts are not present, replace ECM.
