Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor status of DTC P0443. If DTC P0443 has run and failed LAST TEST, go to next step. If DTC P0443 has run and passed LAST TEST, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Check EMISS fuse (10-amp) located in underhood fuse block. If fuse is blown, check for grounded circuit (White wire) between EVAP purge solenoid and fuse block. Repair as necessary and replace fuse. Disconnect EVAP purge solenoid harness connector. Connect a Noid Light (SA9194E) between solenoid harness 2-pin connector terminals. Using scan tool, command EVAP PURGE SOLENOID to a 20 percent duty cycle. If noid light is pulsing, go to next step. If noid light is not pulsing, go to step  4 .
  3. Remove noid light. Using DVOM, measure voltage at EVAP purge solenoid connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/White wire). If voltage is 2.6-4.6 volts, check EVAP purge solenoid connector. If connector is okay, replace EVAP purge solenoid. If voltage is not 2.6-4.6 volts, replace ECM.
  4. Connect a test light between ground and EVAP purge solenoid connector terminal No. 1 (White wire). If test light is on, check for open in Dark Green wire between ECM and EVAP purge solenoid. If wire is okay, replace ECM. If test light is off, repair open in White wire between EVAP purge solenoid and underhood fuse block.
