Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition ON, engine OFF. Using scan tool, command EVAP PURGE SOLENOID on. If solenoid clicks, go to step  5 . If solenoid does not click, go to next step.
  2. Check EMISS fuse (10-amp). Replace and retest if open. If fuse continues to open, check for short to ground in Pink/White wire or shorted HO2S2 heater. Check main relay. Power to EMISS fuse is supplied through main relay. Disconnect EVAP purge solenoid. Connect Noid Light (SA9194E) between EVAP purge solenoid connector. Using scan tool, command EVAP PURGE SOLENOID on (PWM 100 percent duty cycle). If noid light illuminates, check EVAP purge solenoid connector. If connector is okay, replace EVAP purge solenoid. If noid light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Connect test light between EVAP purge solenoid connector terminal "A" (Pink/White wire) and ground. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, repair open in Pink/White wire between EVAP purge solenoid and underhood fuse block.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector J2. Check continuity between EVAP purge solenoid connector terminal "B" (Dark Green/White wire) and ground. If continuity exists, repair short to ground, in Dark Green/White wire between ECM and EVAP purge solenoid. If continuity does not exist, check Dark Green/White wire for open. If wire is okay, replace ECM.
  5. Turn ignition on, engine off. Remove fuel cap. Using scan tool, monitor FUEL TANK PRESS. SENSOR. If voltage is 1.3-1.6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 1.3-1.6 volts, go to step  7 .
  6. Install fuel cap. Using scan tool, seal EVAP system by using EVAP PURGE/SEAL special function. Start engine, accelerate to and hold 3000 RPM. Using scan tool, monitor FUEL TANK PRESS. SENSOR for 30 seconds. If voltage increases to over 3.5 volts, replace EVAP purge solenoid. If voltage does not increase to over 3.5 volts, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  7. If voltage is less than 0.1 volts, see DTC P0452: EVAP FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - LOW VOLTAGE  . If voltage is 0.1-1.3 volts or 1.6-4.9 volts, replace fuel tank pressure sensor. If voltage is greater than 4.9 volts, see DTC P0453: EVAP FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH VOLTAGE  .
