Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator 2-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage on Red wire while using scan tool to command GENERATOR L TERMINAL on. If voltage is less than 4 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4-6 volts, go to step  3 . If voltage is more than 6 volts, repair short to voltage on Red wire between ECM and generator.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM connector J2. Check continuity between Red wire and ground at generator connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Red wire. If continuity does not exist, check Red wire for open. If continuity does not exist, check Red wire for open. If wire is okay, replace ECM.
  3. Using scan tool, command GENERATOR L TERMINAL off. If voltage is not less than 0.2 volt, replace ECM. If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, ensure battery voltage is present at generator. If battery voltage is present, replace generator.
