Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition OFF. If engine has been operating, allow engine to cool down for about 30 minutes before proceeding with test. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S2 for one minute. If scan tool reading does not gradually change toward zero volts, go to next step. If scan tool reading gradually changes toward zero volts, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check EMISS fuse (10-amp) in underhood fuse block. Replace fuse and retest if open. If fuse continues to open, check for short to ground in White wire or a shorted HO2S2 heater. Swap main relay with a known good relay. Raise vehicle. Disconnect HO2S2 harness connector. Turn ignition ON, engine OFF. Connect a test light between ground and HO2S2 harness connector terminal "D" (White wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in White wire between HO2S2 and underhood fuse block. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect ECM connector J2. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Black/White wire between HO2S2 and ECM. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire between HO2S2 and ECM. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance or HO2S2 heater. If resistance is 10-15 ohms, check connector terminals. If terminals are okay, replace ECM. If resistance is not 10-15 ohms, replace HO2S2.
