Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply GM P/N 9985164, or equivalent, to the coolant heater seal.
  2. Ensure that the coolant heater element is horizontal and pointed toward the front the engine.

    The 3 o'clock position (2) is DESIRED.

    The 2 o'clock position (1) and the 4 o'clock position (3) are acceptable.

  3. Install the coolant heater.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the coolant heater Bolt/screw.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the coolant heater Bolt/screw to 2 N.m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine coolant heater cord to the engine coolant heater.
  6. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE  in Body Front End.
  7. Install the right front wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM   .
