Symptom Diagnosis: Noise

The following are possible causes and corrections for this condition:
- The front differential carrier assembly is damaged or the gears are out of position - replace front differential carrier assembly.
- The front differential carrier thrust washer is worn, melted, or extruding - replace front differential carrier thrust washer.
- The bearing assemblies on the front differential carrier assembly are worn or damaged - replace bearing assemblies.
- The splines in the case assembly are damaged - replace case assembly.
- The drive sprocket has worn or broken teeth causing loss of hydraulic power from drive link failure - replace drive sprocket.
- The driven sprocket has worn or broken teeth causing loss of hydraulic power from drive link failure - replace driven sprocket.
- The drive link assembly is stretched or has worn or damaged chain links - replace drive link assembly.
- The pinion gear and/or transfer gear teeth on the front differential drive pinion gear assembly are broken or damaged - replace front differential drive pinion gear assembly.
- The bearing assemblies on front differential drive pinion gear and transfer gear assembly are worn or damaged - replace bearing assemblies.
- The forward clutch backing plate has worn splines - replace forward clutch backing plate.
- The variable drive pulley assembly has worn splines causing excessive backlash - replace variable drive pulley assembly.
- The transmission fluid pump assembly is ingesting air or damaged causing low or no pressure at the discharge port - replace transmission fluid pump assembly.
- The fluid filter assembly is loose or not sealing properly - replace fluid filter assembly.
- The stator shaft assembly has damaged splines - replace transaxle case assembly.
- The sun gear has worn or broken teeth - replace sun gear.
- The lug bolts for the torque converter are loose - tighten lug bolts.
- The bolts securing the transmission fluid pump assembly to the case are loose or stripped - tighten/replace bolts.
