Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. With ignition on, engine running. Apply parking brake. Depress brake pedal. Move gearshift lever to Drive and increase engine speed. Move gearshift lever to Intermediate and increase engine speed. Move gearshift lever to Low and increase engine speed. Did vehicle attempt to move in all gear selections? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Inspect shift cable for proper adjustment. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. Is shift cable properly adjusted? If so, go to next step. If not, adjust shift cable and retest.
  3. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, monitor PNP switch. Move gearshift lever from Park to Low, checking each position. Is scan tool reading correct for each gearshift lever position? If so, go to next step. If not, see DTC P0705: PNP SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
  4. Perform line pressure test. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTS  under PERFORMANCE TESTS. Is line pressure within specifications? If so, go to next step. If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Manual valve link bent or damaged. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.
