Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install a new sealing washer onto the compressor end of the suction hose. Refer to SEALING WASHER REPLACEMENT   . 
  2. Install the suction hose.
  3. Position the engine mount strut bracket flush with the upper radiator support.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the right hand engine mount strut bracket brace bolts to the upper radiator support.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).

  5. Tighten the right hand engine strut mount nuts, engine side.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

  6. Raise the vehicle.
  7. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
  8. Connect the engine harness electrical connector.

  9. Remove the cap or tape form the compressor suction port.
  10. Connect the suction hose to the compressor.
  11. Install the suction hose to compressor nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  12. Remove the cap or tape from the evaporator outlet tube and the auxiliary evaporator outlet tube.
  13. Install a new sealing washer at the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube fitting. Refer to SEALING WASHER REPLACEMENT   . 
  14. Install a new sealing washer at the suction hose to auxiliary evaporator outlet tube fitting. Refer to SEALING WASHER REPLACEMENT   . 
  15. Connect the suction hose to the evaporator outlet tube and the auxiliary evaporator outlet fittings.
  16. Install the suction hose to evaporator outlet tube fitting bolt (1).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  17. Install the auxiliary evaporator outlet tube to suction hose nut (2).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  18. Install the air baffle.
  19. Install the air baffle bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING   . 
  22. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A. 
  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE  in Battery.
