Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the compressor.
  2. Connect the upper transmission oil cooler hose to the radiator. Refer to TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINE QUICK CONNECT FITTING  in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  3. Install the lower radiator hose. Refer to RADIATOR HOSE REPLACEMENT - OUTLET in Engine Cooling.
  4. Install the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT in Battery.
  5. Raise the vehicle.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Install the compressor mounting bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  7. Remove cap or tape from the suction hose.
  8. Install a new sealing washer to the suction hose.

    Refer to SEALING WASHER REPLACEMENT   . 

  9. Connect the suction hose to the compressor.

  10. Install the suction hose to compressor nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  11. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.

  12. Connect the engine harness electrical connector.
  13. Install the air baffle.
  14. Install the air baffle bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Release the drive belt tensioner.

    Install the drive belt on to the compressor pulley.

  17. Remove cap or tape from the discharge hose.
  18. Install a new sealing washer to the discharge hose. Refer to SEALING WASHER REPLACEMENT   . 
  19. Connect the discharge hose to the compressor.
  20. Install the discharge hose to compressor nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

  21. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY AND RECHARGING   . 
  22. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
