Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Start engine and allow idle to stabilize for about one minute. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S heater current. If current is .45-.65 amp, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If current is not .45-.65 amp, go to next step.
- Inspect the fuse for HO2S ignition 1 voltage circuit. Is fuse open? If yes, go to step 13. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Disconnect HO2S 1 connector. DO NOT use HO2S 1 heater low control circuit or HO2S 1 low reference circuit. Probe ignition 1 voltage circuit at the HO2S 1 electrical connector, PCM harness side, with a test light connected to ground. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8.
- Connect test light between the HO2S sensor 1 ignition 1 voltage circuit and HO2S heater low control circuit. Start engine. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition on. Does test light illuminate? If yes, go to step 10. If no, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM. Measure resistance of HO2S heater low control circuit between PCM harness connector and HO2S harness connector using a Digital Multimeter (DMM). Is resistance within 0-5 ohms? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to step 9.
- Repair open in HO2S 1 circuit. After repairs, go to step 16.
- Repair open or high resistance in HO2S 1 heater low control circuit. After repairs, go to step 16.
- Check and repair a short to ground in HO2S 1 heater low control circuit. After repairs, go to step 16. If circuit is okay, go to step 14.
- Check for poor connections at HO2S 1 connector. Repair connector as necessary. After repairs, go to step 16. If connector is okay, go to next step.
- Replace HO2S 1. After repairs, go to step 16.
- Locate and repair short to ground in HO2S 1 ignition 1 voltage circuit. Replace fuse. After repairs, go to step 16.
- Check for poor connections at PCM connectors. Repair connectors as necessary. After repairs, go to step 16. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM. See PROGRAMMING . After repairs, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC resets, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, check for any other DTCs that are set. If no other DTCs are set, system is okay. If any other DTCs are set, repair DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
