Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement - Lower .
- Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.1L) or EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.8L) .
- Remove the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
- Remove the fuel line bracket bolt/stud and bracket.
- Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR .
- Remove the right spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUGS .
- Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.1L) or EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.8L) .
- Remove and discard the right cylinder head bolts.
- Remove the right cylinder head.
- Remove the right cylinder head gasket.
- Clean the following areas:
- The gasket mating surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block, and intake manifolds.
- The cylinder block bolt threads.
- The cylinder head bolts.
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD CLEANING AND INSPECTION .
