Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Is the DTC P0370 also set? If yes, see DTC P0370: TIMING REFERENCE HIGH RESOLUTION  . If no, go to next step.
  3. Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle at the normal operating temperature. Observe the Inj. Pump Closure Time display on the scan tool. Does the scan tool display more than 2.4 ms? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ON all of the accessories, including any aftermarket add-ons. Allow the engine to idle. Complete all of the post glow plug cycles. With a Digital Multimeter (DMM) connected to ground, measure the voltage at the FUEL SOL fuse, the fuel solenoid driver ignition feed circuit, in the U/H relay center. Does the voltage measure 11-16 V? If yes, go to step  7 . If no, go to step  6 .
  5. The DTC is intermittent. If no additional DTCs are stored, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If the additional DTCs were stored, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  6. Repair the fuel solenoid driver ignition feed circuit poor connections. After repairs, go to step  8 .
  7. NOTE: Before replacing fuel solenoid driver, check the fuel system for contamination.
  8. Replace the fuel solenoid driver. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. After repairs, go to next step.
  9. Using the scan tool, clear the DTCs. Start engine and idle the engine at the normal operating temperature. Select DTC and the Specific DTC function. Enter the DTC number that was set. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Setting DTC until the scan tool indicates the diagnostic ran. Does the scan tool indicate the diagnostic passed? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2 .
  10. Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, system is okay.
