Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the wiper module. Refer to Wiper Motor Module Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  3. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and reposition.
  4. Remove the air cleaner cover and intake tube. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4 L.
  5. IMPORTANT: Disconnect the throttle and cruise control cables from the TBI mounting bracket to prevent bending the cable housings.
  6. Disconnect the throttle and cruise control cables.
  7. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube. Refer to Fluid Filler Tube Replacement (LA1) or Fluid Filler Tube Replacement (LY7) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

  9. Disconnect both of the heater hose clamps at the heater core using the J 38185  .
  10. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  11. IMPORTANT: Cap off the heater core inlet and outlet pipes to prevent coolant spillage inside of the vehicle.
  12. Cap off the heater core pipes.
  13. Remove the right I/P insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  14. Remove the left I/P insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  15. Remove the center floor air outlet. Refer to Air Outlet Replacement - Center Floor .

  17. Remove the screws retaining the heater outlet duct.
  18. Remove the heater outlet duct.
  19. Remove the I/P harness to heater core cover tie strap.

  21. Remove the screws retaining the heater core cover.
  22. Remove the heater core cover.

  24. Remove the heater core pipe retaining screw.
  25. Remove the heater core from the HVAC module.
