Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
  2. Fig 1: Installing Oil Seal - Left

  3. Install the J 37292-B  into the new seal (409). See Special Tools and Equipment .
  4. Using the J 34115  install a new seal (409). See Special Tools and Equipment .
  5. IMPORTANT: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal will occur.
  6. Install the wheel drive shaft to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Front in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  7. Remove the J 37292-B  . See Special Tools and Equipment .
  8. Install the left lower ball joint to the lower control arm. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  9. Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement in Power Steering System.
  10. Install the left stabilizer shaft links to the left lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Front Suspension.
  11. Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
  12. Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Refill the automatic transmission with automatic transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure .
  15. Inspect for automatic transmission fluid leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis .
