Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  2. Remove the oil level indicator from the filler tube.

  4. Remove the fluid filler tube nut.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  8. Support the rear of the frame and powertrain with a utility stand.
  9. Remove only the two frame rear bolts.
  10. Lower the powertrain enough to gain access to the transmission filler tube.
  11. Remove the engine coolant (block) heater cord from the transmission filler tube. Refer to Coolant Heater Cord Replacement (LA1) or Coolant Heater Cord Replacement (LY7) in Engine Cooling.
  12. Remove the transfer case vent tube from the transmission filler tube. Refer to Vent Hose Assembly Replacement (LA1) or Vent Hose Assembly Replacement (LY7) in Transfer Case - Steyr.
  13. Remove the transmission filler tube bolt.
  14. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube.
