Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Refer to the appropriate service information in order to install the necessary components to the engine.
  2. Use an engine hoist in order to remove the engine from the engine stand.
  3. Install the engine to the transmission and the frame at the powertrain lift table.

  5. Remove the EN 46114  engine lift brackets.
  6. Install the engine to transmission (bell housing) bolts. Refer to Transmission Replacement (LY7) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  8. Install the transmission upper brace nut located behind the power steering pump.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission upper brace nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the transmission lower brace. Refer to Automatic Transmission Brace Replacement (LY7) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  10. Install the engine mount bracket with the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Bracket Replacement .
  11. Install the transfer case brace. Refer to Support Brace Replacement (LY7) in Transfer Case - Steyr.
  12. Install the power steering pump with the power steering pipe/hose. Refer to Power Steering Pump Removal .
  13. Install the power steering reservoir and reposition to provide access. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LY7) in Power Steering System.
  14. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  15. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the water outlet. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LY7) in Power Steering System.
  16. Install the coolant inlet pipe. Refer to Coolant Pipe Replacement - Inlet in Engine Cooling.
  17. Install the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (LY7) in Engine Exhaust.
  18. Carefully lower the vehicle or raise the powertrain table in order to install the powertrain to the vehicle.
  19. Install the frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement - Front (W/AWD) or Frame Replacement - Front (W/FWD) in Frame and Underbody.
  20. Raise the vehicle and remove the powertrain lift table.
  21. Install the transmission mount lower nuts. Refer to Automatic Transmission Mount Replacement Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  22. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement .
  23. CAUTION: Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion steering gear stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control which could result in an accident and possible personal injury
  24. Install the intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  25. Rotate the struts and install the drive axles to the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Front in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  26. Install the transaxle cooler lines to the transaxle. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Hose Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  27. Install the lower ball joints to the knuckles. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.
  28. Install the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement in Front Suspension.
  29. Install the front wheel speed sensor wiring harnesses to the lower control arms and the frame.
  30. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  31. Connect the VSS electrical connector and secure the wiring harness to the vehicle.
  32. Install the engine splash shields. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.
  33. Install the lower radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  34. Install the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  35. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  36. If the vehicle is equipped with AWD, install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  37. Install the torque converter bolts as necessary. Refer to Flywheel to Torque Converter Bolt Replacement (LY7) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  38. Lower the vehicle.
  39. Fill the engine oil as necessary. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

  41. Install the transmission electrical connector.
  42. Connect the suction hose to the evaporator outlet pipe. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement (LY7) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  43. Connect the discharge hose to the condenser. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement (LY7) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  44. Recharge the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  45. Install the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.

  47. Install the transmission ground wire and the bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the transmission ground bolt 75 N.m (55 lb ft).

  49. Install the ECM chassis (outboard) side electrical connector to the ECM.

  51. Connect the fuel pressure and EVAP pipes to the engine. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Metal Collar) and Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  52. Install the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right .
  53. Connect the heater hoses to the engine. Refer to Heater Hose Replacement - Inlet (LY7) and Heater Hose Replacement - Outlet (LY7) in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  54. Connect the radiator hoses to the engine. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet (LY7) and Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (LY7) in Engine Cooling.
  55. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
  56. Connect the battery positive cable to the generator and the starter. Refer to Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
  57. Connect the battery negative cable to the engine block. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
  58. Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L (LY7).
  59. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
