Shift Cable (Console Shift): Installation

  1. Install the shift cable through the cowl panel and seat the grommet. See Figure . Slide the shift cable (1) fully into the console until it snaps into place. See Figure . Connect the shift cable terminal to the shift lever pin.
  2. Install the console trim plate. See appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Install the left console trim panel.
  3. Insert the shift cable into the bracket. See Figure . Connect the shift cable terminal to the transaxle manual shift lever pin.
  4. Insert the retainer to the shift cable mechanism. See Figure . Adjust the shift cable. See SHIFT CABLE  under ADJUSTMENTS.


  1. Install the shift control cable to the vehicle. See Figure . Install the cable end cap to the floor shift assembly. See Figure . Install the console center trim panel.
  2. Install the left closeout insulator panel. Install the cable into the retaining bracket. See Figure . Push down on the locking tab. Install the cable end cap to the transmission position switch lever.
