Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the powertrain module from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the left bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Drive Chain Replacement - Left .
  4. Remove the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .

  6. Remove the heat shield from the coolant temperature sensor and disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  7. IMPORTANT: Do not remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  8. Disconnect the exhaust crossover pipe from the left bank exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (LY7) in Engine Exhaust.

  10. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Right .

  12. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
  13. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection and Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection .
