Case Extension Housing (4T65-E): Removal

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Remove the right front tire and the wheel assembly. Remove the vehicle speed sensor. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (4T65-E)  .
  2. NOTE: Carefully guide the right drive axle output shaft past the lip seal. The splined portion of the axle can cut the seal.
  3. Remove the right drive axle from the vehicle. See appropriate article in DRIVE AXLES. Remove the transaxle brace bolts. Remove the transaxle brace. See Fig 1 .
  4. Remove the case extension bolts. See Fig 2 . Remove the case extension assembly and the seal. Remove the thrust bearing and the thrust bearing washer.
