Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to Electric Coolant Fan Caution in Cautions and Notices.
    CAUTION: Refer to Damaged Fan Blade Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.6L.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cooling fan harness.
  3. Remove right side diagonal brace. Refer to Brace Replacement - Front Fender Upper Diagonal - Right in Body Front End.

  4. Loosen the engine mount strut nuts. Do NOT remove the nuts.
  5. Remove the bracket brace bolts for the engine mount strut from the upper radiator support. Rotate the struts and brackets rearward.
  6. Remove upper radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet (LA1)  or Radiator Hose Replacement - Inlet (LY7) .

  7. Remove the radiator upper mount bolts (1).
  8. Remove the radiator upper mounts.
  9. Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
  10. Use J 38185  to reposition the coolant overflow hose clamp at the radiator. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  11. Disconnect and reposition the coolant overflow hose.
  12. Disconnect the upper transmission oil cooler (TOC) line from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Line Quick Connect Fitting in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  13. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  14. Disconnect the TOC lines from the fan module retainer clip.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

  16. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers at the engine harness bracket.
  17. Reposition the engine wiring harness.
  18. Remove the cooling fans with the cooling fan shroud.
