Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Collapse the lower intermediate shaft seal into the upper intermediate shaft seal.
- Install the intermediate shaft seal over the intermediate shaft from inside the vehicle.
- Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
- Install the upper intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the intermediate shaft seal bolts to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).
- Install the intermediate shaft seal bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the intermediate shaft seal bolts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
- Connect the intermediate shaft seal to the steering column.
- Install the left closeout panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Connect the lower intermediate shaft seal to the steering gear.
- Lower the vehicle.
NOTE:

IMPORTANT:
Rotate the lower seal in order to obtain proper shaft to seal clearance.
