Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  3. Position a utility stand beneath the rear center section of the frame in order to support the powertrain.
  4. Remove the frame rear bolts.
    5. IMPORTANT: Do not lower the powertrain more than 100 mm (4 in).
  5. Carefully lower the powertrain in order to provide access.

    IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolts.
  6. Remove the crank sensor heat shield bolts (1, 2) and the heat shield.

  7. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector.
    8. IMPORTANT: Use a universal or swivel socket with a long extension in order to remove the bolt.

  8. Remove the KS bolt and the KS.
