Removal Procedure

- Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th mechanical gear position.
- Remove the shift tower. Refer to SHIFT TOWER REPLACEMENT in Manual Transmission - NV 1500.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
- Drain the transmission fluid.
- Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - ONE PIECE or PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - TWO PIECE in Propeller Shaft.
- Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD PIPE REPLACEMENT in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.
- Remove the left side transmission to engine brace.
- Remove the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.
- Remove the right side transmission to engine brace.
- Use the J 42371 , push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to separate the hydraulic clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
- Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
- Remove the wiring harness from the harness retainers.
- Remove the clutch housing cover bolts.
- Remove the clutch housing cover.
- Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
- Remove the transmission support frame. Refer to TRANSMISSION SUPPORT REPLACEMENT (RWD) or TRANSMISSION SUPPORT REPLACEMENT (4WD) in Frame and Underbody.
- Remove the transmission to engine bolts.
- Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines. Do not let the transmission hang from the clutch plate and the clutch cover.
- Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.
