Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove liftgate trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - LIFT GATE (AZTEK)  or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - LIFT GATE (RENDEZVOUS)  .
  2. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to WINDOW REPLACEMENT -- LIFT GATE (BUICK) or WINDOW REPLACEMENT -- LIFT GATE (PONTIAC) .
  3. Remove the liftgate latch strikers. Refer to LATCH STRIKER REPLACEMENT - LIFT GATE (AZTEK)  or LATCH STRIKER REPLACEMENT - LIFT GATE (RENDEZVOUS)  .
  4. Remove the liftgate bumper mounting brackets.
  5. Disconnect the liftgate electrical connector.

  6. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to STRUT REPLACEMENT - LIFT GATE  .
  7. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges to the liftgate with a grease pencil.
  8. Remove the bolts from the liftgate hinges, with an assistant.
  9. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle, with an assistant and place outside face down on a clean padded surface.
