Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Head restraints are the double-post type that are adjustable either up or down. Only the solid type head restraints have serviceable trim covers. Use J 42372  in order to remove the head restraints.

  1. Raise the head restraint to the full up position.
  2. Push the head restraint down just far enough in order to center the locking clip in between the detents (3) on the posts.
  3. Insert the J 42372  down the detent side of both posts (3) slightly off center of the detents.

  4. Push the head rest removal tool over and down to the detent making sure to keep constant pressure on the tool to grab and move the clip away from the detent.
  5. Push down on both of the tools on both sides and lift the head restraint out.

It may be necessary to have help pulling on the head rest or pushing on the tool.
