Front Cover: Installation

Install oil pressure relief valve with a new O-ring seal in engine front cover. Apply a 1/8" (2 mm) wide to 1 1/6" (3 mm) high bead of Sealant (GM 97720043) to engine front cover sealing surface to engine block. Apply a 1/8" (2 mm) wide to 1/16" (0.5 mm) high bead of sealant to engine front cover sealing surface to upper oil pan.
Install new O-ring in front cover. Lubricate O-ring with clean engine oil. Install engine front cover. Install engine front cover 13 bolts. Install 5 bolts retaining upper oil pan to engine front cover.
Install turbocharger coolant outlet pipe bracket and bolts. Install camshaft sensor bolt and sensor. Connect camshaft sensor electrical connector.
The crankshaft position sensor spacers are machined with different timing positions. If spacer requires replacement, replace with same part number. Install crankshaft position sensor spacer. Install crankshaft position sensor spacer bolts.
Install crankshaft position sensor. Install crankshaft position sensor bolt. Install water pump. See WATER PUMP .
Install crankshaft front oil seal. See CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL . Install crankshaft balancer. See CRANKSHAFT BALANCER . Install thermostat housing crossover.
Install oil fill tube. Install drive belt. Install upper fan shroud. Install right front fender wheelhouse panel. Fill engine coolant. See DRAINING & REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM . Connect battery negative cable. Install upper intake manifold sight shield.
