Installation (M/T)

  1. Replace ring gear, if removed. When heating ring gear with a torch do not overheat. Do not get ring gear so hot that it turns Blue or Red.
  2. Heat ring gear evenly with a torch. Using a hammer and a brass punch, install ring gear until seated. Install pilot bearing in flywheel. Install flywheel assembly.
  3. Use NEW bolts to install flywheel. Loosely install new flywheel bolts. Install flywheel holding tool in order to hold flywheel from rotating.
  4. Tighten flywheel bolts to 58 ft. lbs. (78 N.m). Tighten flywheel bolts to 60 degrees using torque angle meter. Tighten flywheel bolts again to 60 degrees using torque angle meter. Confirm tightening torque is at least 266 ft. lbs. (360 N.m). See Figure.
  5. Install clutch. See appropriate CLUTCHES article in TRANSMISSIONS. Install starter. See appropriate STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEM article. Install transmission. See appropriate CLUTCHES article in TRANSMISSIONS.
