Draining & Refilling Cooling System: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Sierra, 2002 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2002 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: With a pressurized cooling system, coolant temperature in radiator can be considerably higher than boiling point of solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of surge tank cap, while cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause solution to spew out over engine, fenders, and person removing cap. Serious bodily injury may result.
NOTE: A low or high coolant level condition and/or vehicle damage could result if procedures are not followed properly.
