Rear Main Oil Seal Replacement - L61: Removal

  1. Remove transaxle assembly. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (VT25-E) and/or REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (AF33-5) .
  2. If servicing rear main seal on manual transaxle, refer to TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY .
  3. Install Flywheel Holding J43653 tool.

  4. Remove flexplate/flywheel bolts and discard.
  5. Remove flexplate/flywheel assembly.
  6. Clean thread adhesive from flywheel bolts. Use a nylon bristle to clean bolt holes from crankshaft.
  7. Remove Flywheel Holding tool J43653.

    IMPORTANT:  Care should be used when removing the rear main seal not to damage the block or sealing surface.

  8. Remove rear main seal by using a seal removal tool, or by installing a self-tapping screw and slide hammer into seal.
