Rear Main Oil Seal Replacement - L61: Installation

  1. Make sure rear main seal bore is free from debris. If sealer is present, it must be removed to assure proper installation of rear main seal.
  2. Using Rear Crankshaft Seal Installer J42067, press new seal into housing until fully seated. Installer will control depth of seal installation.

  3. Install flywheel/flexplate.

  4. Install new flywheel/flexplate bolts.

  5. Install Flywheel Holder Tool J43653.
  6. Tighten flywheel bolts.

    Torque: 

    Flywheel Bolts - L61: 53 N.m (39 ft-lbs) + 25° 

  7. Remove Flywheel Holding tool J43653.
  8. If vehicle is equipped with a manual transaxle. Install clutch assembly. Refer to TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY .
  9. Install transaxle assembly. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (VT25-E) and/or REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - A/T (AF33-5) .
