Fan Shroud: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2002 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Tools Required: Coolant & Battery Fluid Tester (J-23688).
- Install the cooling fan shroud. See Figure .
- Install the cooling fan shroud clip to the top of the radiator. Apply pressure in order to completely engage the clip onto the radiator.
- Install the cooling fan shroud bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the cooling fan shroud electrical connectors.
- Install the cooling fan heat shields.
- Install the radiator upper support brackets and bolts that hold the fan shroud. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the air cleaner assembly. See Figure and Figure . Install the 2 screws into the 2 air cleaner housing sections. Tighten the screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the PCM harness on to the fan shroud clip.
- Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
- Install the left front fender upper diagonal brace with the following procedures:
- Align the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the radiator support and to the inner fender. See Figure .
- Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the radiator support. Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at radiator support bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the bolts to the front end sheet metal diagonal brace at the inner fender. Tighten the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the inner fender bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the electrical harness push-in connector to the brace.
- Install the right and left engine mount struts. See Figure , Figure , Figure , or Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the retainers at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system with the following procedures:
- Close the radiator drain cock. Tighten the radiator drain cock to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If the engine block drain plug was removed, apply pipe sealer to the drain plug and install the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Open the cooling system bleeder screws.
- Slowly fill the cooling system with a 50/50 coolant mixture.
- Close the cooling system bleeder screws.
- Install the coolant pressure cap.
- Start the engine.
- Run the engine at 2000-2500 RPM until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
- Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes.
- Shut the engine off.
- Allow the engine to cool.
- Top off the coolant as necessary.
- Inspect the concentration of the engine coolant using the coolant and battery fluid tester.
- Rinse away any excess coolant from the engine and the engine compartment.
- Inspect the cooling system for leaks.
NOTE: Use a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL antifreeze and deionized water. - Connect the negative battery cable with the following procedures:NOTE: Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.
- Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. See Figure . Tighten the battery negative terminal bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Program the radio stations back into the radio as recorded at the beginning of the procedure.
- Inspect for proper operation.
