Outer Joint & Seal: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Montana, 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2003 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
DO NOT cut through the axle shaft inboard seal during service. Cutting through the seal may damage the sealing surface of the housing and the tripod bushing. Damage to the sealing surface may lead to water and dirt intrusion and premature wear of the constant velocity joint.
NOTE:
The correct 60 degree offset relationship between the inner and outer tripod spiders must be maintained. Accurately reference mark the tripod spider position on the axle shaft bar before disassembly.
NOTE:
Required Tools: Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J-35566) and Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers (J-42572).
