Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

- Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the Red Brake indicator. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate briefly during the displays test? If so, go to next step. If not go to step 11 .
- Apply the park brake. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 5 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Release the park brake. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch and a the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 7 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake switch and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to step 9 . If not, go to next step.
- Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step 11 .
- Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to next step.
- Test the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step 11 .
- Inspect for poor case ground or poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step 13 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to step 14 .
- Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 15 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 15 .
- Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
- Operate the vehicle in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, then system okay. If system is not okay, go to step 2 .
