Description & Operation
The conventional (base) brake system consists of front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, with power assist. An optional Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is available.
The hydraulic brake system consists of the hydraulic brake master cylinder fluid reservoir, brake master cylinder, brake booster, wheel caliper (disc brakes) or wheel cylinders (drum brakes). Hydraulic output pressure is distributed from master cylinder through 2 hydraulic circuits, supplying diagonally-opposed wheel apply circuits. Hydraulic brake pressure balance control system regulates brake fluid pressure delivered to hydraulic brake wheel circuits, in order to control the distribution of braking force. Pressure balance control on non-ABS equipped vehicles is achieved through a proportioning valve assembly. Pressure balance control on ABS equipped vehicles is achieved through Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP), which is a function of the ABS modulator. Brake wheel apply components converts hydraulic input pressure into mechanical output force.
