Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition on. Observe Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) operation. If warning lights are not operational, go to next step. If other warning lights are operational, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  7.
  3. Inspect fuel and temperature gauge operation. If both gauges are working, go to step  5. If both gauges are not working, go to next step.
    NOTE: Use Digital Multimeter (SA911141NE) and Connector Test Adapter Kit (SA9206Z) when performing electrical tests.
  4. Remove IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance from terminal B4 (Black/White wire) of IPC connector and ground. If resistance is greater than one ohm, repair high resistance. Go to step  7. If resistance is one ohm or less, replace IPC. Go to step  7.
  5. Inspect AIR BAG fuse. If AIR BAG fuse is not blown, go to next step. If AIR BAG fuse is blown, replace fuse. Go to step  7.
  6. Remove IPC. Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage at IPC connector terminal A10 (Pink wire). If battery voltage is present, replace IPC. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit between AIR BAG fuse and IPC connector. Go to next step.
  7. Reconnect all SIR components. Using scan tool, clear SIR DTC's. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
